Interpol has issued arrest warrants for Libya's Muammar Gadhafi, his son Saif al-Islam, and intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senussi, it said in a statement Friday, Reuters reported. "As far as Interpol's general secretariat headquarters is concerned, Muammar Gadhafi is a fugitive whose country of nationality and the International Criminal Court (ICC) want arrested and held accountable for the serious criminal charges that have been brought against him," said Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble. The ICC issued arrest warrants in June for all 3 for crimes against humanity.

Eleven people, including 9 students, died and 16 others were injured after a ferryboat sank in a river in central Hunan Friday afternoon, local authorities confirmed early Saturday morning, Xinhua reported. 45 people were aboard the vessel when it left a pier in the town of Tangtianshi in Shaoyang County. It capsized and sank after it was blocked by some iron cables that are used for dredger. The deceased students are all from primary and middle schools in the town of Tangtianshi. They were returning homes for the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.

The Palace Museum will run a trial online ticket reservation system starting Sept 20 to encourage visitors to save time by buying tickets at home, giving them more time to tour the museum, its official website said Friday. A maximum of 80,000 tickets will be available each day during next month's 7-day National Day holiday, with half of the tickets available online and the other half sold on site. Tickets can be booked online 5 days in advance.

A US soldier killed an Afghan reporter working for the BBC, mistakenly believing him to be a suicide bomber about to detonate his explosives during an attack in July, a NATO-led alliance said Thursday. According to the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists, 19 journalists, mainly foreign, have been killed since the war began. Khpalwak was the first journalist to be killed in 2011, Reuters reported.

A packed commuter train sped hundreds of km across India in the wrong direction before passengers finally realized it was pulling into an unfamiliar station, The Times of India reported Friday. The mistake was believed to have arisen because it was given an incorrect destination code, as it was a special service and many of the staff were unfamiliar with the route. "Though the journey was agonizing, we thank our stars that the train did not run into another train," one of its more than 1,000 passengers said.
