'总理在汶川'拍350万元
Bidders in Chengdu were vying Friday for a large oil painting featuring Premier Wen Jiabao visiting earthquake-hit Wenchuan in 2008. In less than 10 minutes, the painting measuring 2.8 by 1.5 meters fetched RMB3.5m, Chengdu Daily reported. A man surnamed He from Jinjiang, Fujian, won the bid. The painting's creator, Feng Ming, said he will donate all the money to the Red Cross Society of China Sichuan Branch.

'涨薪不力'促职场跳槽潮
A survey of over 8,000 office workers shows that 40.8% want to switch jobs, and have begun the search, the Tianfu Morning Post reported. 37.5% are thinking about job-hopping but haven't seen good chances, while 12.8% have successfully moved. Only 8.9% say they have never planned to switch jobs. Unchanged wages topped the list of job-hopping reasons in 2011.

Google's Android operating system overtook Research In Motion's BlackBerry as the top smartphone platform in the US in the first quarter, according to research firm comScore. Google gained 6 percentage points to capture a market share of 34.7%, helped by manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics. Meanwhile, Research In Motion lost its grip on the top position, sliding 4.5 percentage points to a market share of 27.1%. Apple Inc maintained the 3rd place, increasing market share by a half percentage point to 25.5%.

俄政府'忆苦思甜'惹争议
A deliberately shocking ad campaign for the upcoming anniversary of Victory Day in World War II sparked anger as it urges Russians to survive on wartime rations and sleep on bare ground, AFP reported. The public service ads commissioned by Moscow city government and displayed on billboards ahead of the May 9 celebrations describe wartime privations, with the slogan: "Our grandfathers could. You try!" The hardships named include sleeping on bare earth for 5 years and surviving on wartime rations of one piece of bread, one lump of sugar and a cup of water per day.(See photo)

Hong Kong actor Edison Chen may have not expected that his "sexually explicit photo" scandal would cause a woman he never met to lose her job 3 years later. The woman surnamed Wang, about 40, was a senior executive in one of the world's top 500 firms in Shanghai. Her office computer was found to have one of the sex photos featuring Chen, which was exposed 3 years ago online. She was ordered to resign as the company believes that she has downloaded and spread pornographic photos during work hours.

In South Korea, home of kimchi and other pungent, garlicky foods, having fresh breath for life's big moments - such as a kiss - is a major concern. But researchers may soon have a natural answer - ping-pong ball-sized "Kiss Apple" tiny enough to be stashed in a pocket or purse for quick eating prior to locking lips, Reuters reported. "We can mass-produce the species with stronger functions that control food odors in as few as 2 years," said a researcher at South Korea's Rural Development Administration. But potential consumers were skeptical, saying that chomping on an apple might not do much for romance. "I'm afraid this could damage the mood," said one 28-year-old man.
