Spokesman Feng Nai'en at the Forbidden City Wednesday confirmed 7 art pieces, which were on loan from a museum in Hong Kong and on exhibition in Beijing, had been stolen from the Palace Museum, chinanews.com reported. Nine pieces were previously discovered missing and 2, which were damaged and dropped by thieves, were recovered, according to Feng at a press conference. Feng made an apology for not preventing the theft. He also clarified some Internet rumors concerning the incident, saying that the so-called wall with a hole is a decorative wall rather than a real one.

China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 5.3% in April from a year ago, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Wednesday. The April figure was down 0.1 percentage points from March's 32-month high of 5.4%, according to the NBS. China's producer price index (PPI), a main gauge of inflation at the wholesale level, rose 6.8% in April from a year ago, down 0.5 percentage points from the previous month. Food prices surged 11.5% year on year. Non-food prices rose 2.7% from a year earlier.

Foreign luxury brands are seeking Hong Kong stock market listings to boost their profile among China's fast-growing affluent class, especially those from the mainland, Information Times reported. Following in the footsteps of French skin care firm L'Occitane, which started an initial public offering (IPO) in Hong Kong last May, Italian fashion house Prada announced its plan to go public in Hong Kong by the end of June or in early July. British luxury shoemaker Jimmy Choo, US upscale handbag and accessories maker Coach Inc, and luggage firm Samsonite are all reported to be planning Hong Kong share listings this year.

Google is making a push into entertainment services, adding music storage and movie-rental features to its Android, Bloomberg reported. The new Music Beta service, announced Wednesday, will store song libraries and playlists, and will suggest music based on listeners' collections. Movies will be available for rent through the Android Market, and can be streamed to personal computers, tablet devices and handsets, the company said. Google's new service, like Amazon's, will rely on cloud computing, which delivers songs over the Internet rather than keeping them on local hard drives.
