屈原故里获封'诗歌之乡'
Qu Yuan's hometown of Zigui, Hubei, was granted the title "Hometown of Chinese Poetry" by the Poetry Institute of China Sunday, the China News Service reported. Qu Yuan is considered the "Father of Chinese Poetry". According to historical materials, it is custom for Zigui to commemorate Qu Yuan with poets during the Dragon Boat Festival since the Northern and Southern Dynasties (420-589). The custom passes on from generation to generation and has become a unique humanist tradition and landscape in Zigui.

The People's Bank of China is likely to increase the interest rates banks must pay on deposits and the amount of money banks are required to hold in reserve to sop up the excess liquidity now found in the economy, said analysts, China Daily reported. The changes in monetary policy may happen before the National Bureau of Statistics makes an expected announcement this week saying that the consumer price index (CPI) hit a record high in May, they said. "The central government should and probably will curb this continuously rising inflation by raising interest rates. It would be reasonable to raise China's interest rates by at least 0.75 percentage points this year," said Li Daokui, an adviser to the People's Bank of China and professor at Tsinghua University.

Police broke up a mass fast against graft led by India's most famous yoga guru Sunday, Reuters reported. A senior ruling party figure said the swami Ramdev had used the anti-corruption event to incite people. Police detained the guru and flew him to the northern Indian centre of his $40m-a-year global yoga and health empire. Political analysts said the police action could spark protests by Ramdev's millions of supporters and dent the government's popularity. Ramdev accused the police of brutality when they broke up the hunger strike.

Iran will complain to FIFA after its women's team was banned from a qualifying game for next year's Olympics due to their Islamic dress, the ISNA news agency reported Sunday. The Iranian team was banned from a match against Jordan shortly before the game was due to start in Amman Friday, Iran's state-run Press TV reported. Jordan was awarded a 3-0 win in the 2nd round qualifying match. FIFA banned the team last April due to their plan to wear headscarves in accordance with the Islamic dress code which requires all women in Iran to cover their hair in public, according to Reuters.

Another infidelity scandal has hit Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs. Giggs allegedly had an 8-year relationship with his brother Rhodri's wife, the digitalspy.co.uk reported. The footballer is said to have first met Natasha at a Manchester nightclub in 2003, while his wife was pregnant with their first child. The pair are alleged to have met on various occasions over the coming years. Giggs is still reeling from another fling. Liberal Democrat MP John Hemming recently named Giggs as the footballer who had taken out an injunction over an alleged affair with Imogen Thomas.

Over the course of the 180-day school year, Dale Price waved at the school bus carrying his 16-year-old son, Rain, while wearing something different every morning outside their home in Utah, the US, AP reported. He dressed up as Elvis, Batgirl, the Little Mermaid and Santa Claus. He wore wigs, feathers, flips flops and even a wedding dress. Dale Price said he did it to show his son he cared about him.
