      春天是个适合约会的季节，对简倾慕已久的比尔终于鼓足勇气向简表白。然而面对第一次约会，比尔一筹莫展，只能向好友德里克请教。

      德里克会给比尔出什么主意？比尔还做了什么准备？与意中人的初次约会该做好哪些功课呢？一起来看看！

      Bill is talking with his friend Derek about his plans for his first date

      Derek : Congratulations dude, I wasn’t sure you were ever going to get up

      enough nerve to ask Jane out. Thanks, I wasn’t sure either sometimes, 

      but then I realized that I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life

      wondering “what if?”

      Bill : Thanks, I wasn’t sure either sometimes, but then I realized that I

      Derek : So what are your plans for the big date?

      Bill : Man, that’s the problem, I haven’t really got a plan.

      Derek :  No plan? Dude, didn’t anyone ever tell you that you should always

      ①look before you leap ?

      Bill : I know, but I was kind of hoping you would be able to help me out.

      B

      Derek : I’m not sure I am any kind of expert of planning a good date.

      Bill : You must be, look how many of them you have been on!

      Derek : [Laughing] Keep it up wise guy and the only help you’ll get from

      me is a 1) coupon for a discount at McDonalds.

      Bill : Ok, I’ll be good, now come on man, if you were me, what would you

      do?

      Derek : Well first I need to have some information.

      Bill :  Sure, 2)shoot !

      Derek : Well I guess the first place to start is what kind of budget are

      you working with?

      Bill : I don’t want to sound like a 3) cheapskate , but I was hoping to

      not spend more than $50.00.

      C

      Derek : Ok, that is totally 4)doable ! Next question, what is she into?

      Bill : That’s part of my problem, I don’t really know.

      Derek :  Dude, if you don’t want this date to suck, you are going to need

      to do your homework. 

      Bill : What do you mean?

      Derek : You need to talk to some of her friends, or pay attention to what

      she reads, how she dresses or what types of food she eats in the

      cafeteria. 

      You’re gonna have to get inside her head a bit.

      Bill : Wow, and here I thought the hard part was asking her out.

      Derek : You’d better 5) get cracking ! Once you have gathered some Intel,

      come back and we can 6) plan out a night to remember!

      Bill : Thanks man, I knew you’d have my back!

      德里克 ： 那么你对这个重要约会有什么计划？ 

      比  尔 ：   老兄，这是一个难题啊。我现在还真的没什么计划。

      德里克 ：   没有计划？兄弟，难道没有人告诉过你凡事要三思后行吗？  

      比  尔 ：   我知道，但是我希望你能够助我一臂之力。

      德里克 ：  我可不敢肯定我是约会方面的专家啊。 

      比  尔 ：   你一定行，看看你有多少个成功的案例啊！

      德里克 ： （笑）继续保持你的幽默吧，我想你能从我这得到的唯一帮助就是一张麦当劳的优惠券了。

      比  尔 ：     好啊，我不介意。现在说正题吧，老兄。如果你是我，你会怎么做？ 

      德里克 ：   首先我需要了解一些信息。

       比  尔 ：   没问题，请说吧！

      德里克 ：  我先要知道你的预算是多少？

      比  尔 ：   我不想被人当成小气鬼，不过我希望花销不要超过50美元。

      德里克 ： 好 ， 这 完 全 能 做 到 。下 一 个 问题：她喜欢什么呢？

      ①look before you leap 三思而后行

      这 句 常 见 的 成 语 出 自 《 伊 索寓 言 》 Aesop ’s Fables 。 话 说 有 一 天 狐 狸 不 小 心 掉 进 了

      深井里而没办法跳出来，就在它感到一筹莫展 时，

      一只口渴的山羊正好经过这口井。这时 狡猾的狐狸装出很愉快的神情说：“这里的 水真可口，要不要下来尝尝呢？”山羊听了 这番话，竟毫不怀

      疑地跳了下去。接着狐狸 又向山羊借了它的前角，说等它跳上井后，就会想办法把山羊也救上来。可是等狐狸顺 利爬上去后，它却只是回过头

      Bill : I’m glad you guys are willing to help me out, but you have to

      Susan : So when is the big date?

      Bill : Saturday night, I am supposed to pick her up around 6 p.m.

      Annie : So it is a dinner date?                                           

      Bill : Yeah, I mean I guess so.

      Susan : Well if you are planning to meet around 6 p.m., unless you’ve

      specified otherwise, I think you can plan on her thinking it is a dinner

      date.

      Bill : Ok, well I had kind of thought we’d eat, but suddenly I’m freaking

      out because I don’t know what she likes.

      Annie : No need to 1) get that worked up over it, we’ve known Jane for

      years and she isn’t too fussy about food.

      Susan : Except she doesn’t really like to eat much 2)seafood , most fish

      is ok, but no 3) crabs  , or 4)clams , or stuff like that.

      Annie : That’s true, but she loves most other food. What about Italian? I

      could always take her to Alberto’s on Fourth.

      Bill : What about Italian? I could always take her to Alberto’s on Fourth.

      Susan : I know for sure that she loves it there, so that is a great idea!

      Annie : Yeah, but if you haven’t already, you’d better get a reservation,

      Saturday is one of their busiest nights and you don’t want to be sitting

      around waiting for a table.

      Bill : Thanks guys, I’ll call right away. Any other ideas or advice?

      Annie : Well you should probably try and think about what you are going to

      do after dinner.

      Susan : You don’t need to tell her where or anything, but do mention your

      plan on grabbing a bite.

      Annie : And don’t get her flowers, she really doesn’t care much for them.

      C

      Bill : Really? Why not?

      Susan : She always says she prefers to look at them growing naturally

      rather than in a 5) jar where they will die in a couple of days.

      Annie : But she loves chocolate, so you can never go wrong there.

      Bill : Well that is another thing we have in common then, I love chocolate

      too!

      Susan : Mostly just be yourself, you can be sure she already likes you a

      little, she isn’t the type to say yes to date unless that much is true.

      Annie : And be on time, or at least call if you are going to be late, she

      hates 6) tardiness .

      Bill : Thanks again and if you think of anything else that might 1 give me

      a leg up , please let me know, ok?

      Susan : Deal!

      安妮 ：  是的，不过其他大部分食物她都喜欢吃。

      比尔 ：  意大利菜怎么样？我可以带她去 Alberto’s on Fourth 吃。

      苏珊 ：  我肯定她会喜欢那里，这是一个好主意！

      安妮 ：  是啊，但是如果你还没有预订座位的话，最好先预订一下，星期六是他们最忙的夜晚之一，你总不希望坐在那里等座位吧。

      Bill : I have been thinking about it a lot, one idea I had was a walk

      along the river.

      Derek : Actually that isn’t a bad idea at all! The sun is setting later

      each day and I think this weekend is “Music in the Park”.

      Bill : Is that the free 2)concert series?

      Derek : Sure is! It starts this weekend and goes through 10 p.m. Friday,

      Saturday and Sunday.

      Bill : I should find out who is playing on Saturday.

      before I plan our second date.

      Derek : Now that’s the spirit, already planning a second date! 

      Bill : Well why not? This could be a lot of fun, good food, nice walk,

      Derek :  It does sound great! Hey how about you forget Jane and take me?

      Bill : [Laughing] Not this time, but 5) on the bright side , don’t you

      still have those coupons for McDonalds?
