这组词都可表示“发光”的意思。

 

flash  “闪光”、“闪”现,指一闪一闪的发光,也可指脑海中一瞬间浮现的想法。可用
  作动词和名词。

 

 1) The light of the lighthouses on the shore flashed in the darkness.

     (黑暗中灯塔的光在岸边的一闪一闪地发光。)

 2)My eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light.

             (我被霓虹灯的闪烁刺眼。)

 3) He was lost in deep thought and all of a sudden a solution to the problem flashed across his mind.

            (他陷入了沉思,突然一个解决问题的办法在脑海闪过。)

 

glare   指刺眼、耀眼的光。可用作动词和名词。

 

1) The headlight glared in front of us and we could not see anything.

         (汽车车灯在我们面前闪耀,我们什么也看不见。)

2) I had to wear sunglasses because of the glare of the sun

  (我不得不戴墨镜,因为阳光刺眼。)

 

glitter  指闪烁的寒光,作名词意为“闪烁耀人光芒”。

 

1) All that glitters is note gold.

  (闪光的未必都是黄金。)

2) The children were attracted by the glitter of the Christmas tree decorations.

         (孩子们被吸引圣诞树上闪耀的装饰品吸引住了。)

 

glimmer  指微弱的闪光。可用作动词和名词。

         

  1) A faint light glimmered at the end of the passage.

           (在走廊的尽头有一盞灰暗灯闪着微光。)

  2) We saw a glimmer of light through the curtains in the distance.

(在远处我们看到一丝微光透过窗帘。)

 

glow   指灼热的光、发炽热的光辉。可用作动词和名词。

 

       1) The flames of the fire have died down, but the ashes still glow.

         (火的火焰已经息灭,但灰烬还在发余光。)

 2) There was a red glow over the sky of the steel plant.

(在钢厂的上空一片红光。)

         

twinkle   指星光或眼里闪烁的眼光。

 

 1) The sky was dark except for the twinkle of distant stars.

        (除了遥远的星星在闪烁,天空一片漆黑。)

       2) The lights on the distant boats twinkled in the darkness.

     (远处小船上的灯光在黑暗中闪烁。)

 

sparkle   与glitter 相似,指闪烁的寒光,也可表示眼里闪烁的眼光。

 

1) The dinner table sparkled with silver and crystal.

     (这张餐桌闪烁着银和水晶的寒光。)

2) His eyes sparkled/twinkled with excitement and happiness.

   (他的双眼闪烁着兴奋和快乐的光芒。)
