        这组词都可表示“利用”、“应用”，“使用”的意思。

apply  “应用”、“使用”，普通用词，

       2) We tried to borrow western management methodology and to apply it into our business environment

          （我们尝试借用西方的管理方法，将其应用于到我们的商业环境中去。）

    adopt 表示“应用”，“使用”、“采用”，用法同 apply。

1）A new technique adopted /applied in production, the output of our factory have been greatly raised.

 （在生产采用了一项新技术，我们的工厂的产量有了大大幅度的提高。）

2) Very strict safety measures must be adopted in nuclear power installations.

          （核能设施必须采取严格的安全措施。）

employ   如接人，表示“雇用”，接物表示“利用”、“应用”，相当于apply 、adopt。

1) He has a degree of psychology, and is employed as a student advisor.

（他有心理学学位，被受雇为学生顾问。）

2) We all have a high regard for your strategies you employed in the negotiation.

（我们每个人都高度赞赏你在谈判应用中策略。）

       utilize 指利用某物，目的在于改进、改造、解决问题等。

           （为了发展贫穷国家的济经、完全有必要的利用发达国家的资本和投资。）

harness  本意是“治理”，引申出“利用”，侧重指治理而加以利用。

1）They are engaged in a new research to harness the winds to generate electricity power.

（他们正在进行一项利用风力发电的新研究。）

2) The problem of removing waste materials from our big industrial cities will not be solved until we find means to harness these materials.

（在找到办法利用废料之前，从工业城市清除废料的问题不会得到解决的。）

exploit 指开发利用。

1) Water power is a major potential source of power in most countries, but has only been exploited to a limited extent. 

（在许多国家里水力发电都是一个重要的有潜力的能源，但目前只是有限地被开发利用。）

2) The problem is how we can best exploit the underground water which is abundant in the area.

（问题是我们怎样才能最好地利用这一地区丰富的地下水资源。）

manipulate 指幕后操纵加以利用。

1) He manipulates the director board of the company so well that the power has actually fallen into his hand.

          （他很好地操纵了公司董事会以致公司权力实际上在他手里。）

2) By manipulating the public support, the statesman successfully made believe that the was doing the right thing.

（利用公众对他的支持，这位政治家成功地让人相信他在做的正确的事。）
