In 1982 Steven Callahan was crossing  the Atlantic alone in his boat. His boat struck something and sank. He only floated in a life raft. He almost had no food and other living things. His chances of living were small. But he had stayed in the seawater for seventy--six days before the passing fishermen saved him.        How could he live so long? He caught fishes  in the sea and got fresh water from rain. He also had to face the heaviest  loneliness when he was suffering from great hunger, deadly tiredness . Perhaps many other people  in that condition would give in or go mad. But he told himself, "Building up fortitude, I can handle it."        Steven Callahan saved himself by the will more than the food and water. Any difficulty in the world  is not terrible. The really terrible thing is that it is easy to give up when we are in a little trouble situation.
