Iranian president hails implementation of subsidy reform plan

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hailed on Tuesday the implementation of the country's subsidy reform plan.

Talking to reporters in a press conference in Tehran, Ahmadinejad said the implementation of the plan had been " successful," and the reform was still being conducted and would be carried out with the help of the nation in the future.

"In an overall evaluation, it (the plan) has been implemented very well," said Ahmadinejad, while adding that "it does not mean that there has been no problem" in the executive areas.

He went on by adding that the nation contributed to the performance of the government's policies and programs to push forward the plan.

He rejected the criticisms concerning the negative impacts of the plan in the country's industry and economy, saying that the industrial productions had not stopped or been negatively affected.

The consumption of energy and natural gas in the industry had been increased, which meant that the industrial productions did not stop, but had been multiplied, the president argued.

The energy consumption by households and transportation, on the other hand, had decreased, a positive response to the reform by the people, he added.

The plan aimed at establishing justice and reducing class gaps, Ahmadinejad said, adding that all the subsidies would gradually be removed during a five-year period.
