Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad nominated on Tuesday the track and field champion, Hamid Sajjadi, as the minister of the newly-established Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and introduced him to the Majlis (Parliament), the state-owned IRNA news agency reported.

In a letter read to the Iranian lawmakers by Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Tuesday, the president named Sajjadi as the nominee for the new ministry who still needs to receive the vote of confidence from the Majlis.

According to the report, Sajjadi, champion of track and field with 10 medals from Asian games, has a PhD in Sports Physiology and currently teaches Physical Training courses in Iran's Azad University.

The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs was established upon an approval by the Majlis last winter when lawmakers voted to merge the National Organization for Youth and the Physical Training Organization into one single ministry, said IRNA.
