UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on Saturday welcomed the results of the All Darfur Stakeholders Conference held in Qatar Tuesday, which he said has laid the basis for sustainable peace and stability in Sudan's Darfur.

A statement issued here by Ban's spokesman said, "The secretary-general welcomes the outcome of the All Darfur Stakeholders Conference (ADSC) as the basis for reaching a permanent ceasefire and inclusive peace settlement, and sustainable peace and stability in Darfur."

Delegates at the All Darfur Stakeholders Conference endorsed a framework document for peace in Darfur prepared by the mediators after two year of tireless efforts despite continued tergiversations of the negotiating parties.

"The secretary-general calls on the parties to end hostilities without delay, sign a ceasefire and make the compromises necessary to reach a sustainable peace," the statement added.

"The Conference endorsed the Doha draft document as the basis for reaching a permanent ceasefire, a comprehensive and inclusive peace settlement, and sustainable peace and stability in Darfur," says the final communique read at the meeting by Qatari state minister for foreign affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah Al-Mahoud.

The stakeholders further urged the Sudanese government and the rebel groups in the troubled region of Darfur to "make every effort to reach a permanent ceasefire and a comprehensive peace settlement on the basis of this document".
