英语中表示“包括”、“包含”常用 include 和contain。这两个词容易混淆。include

指包含部分内容，contain 指作为组成部分而被包含或容纳在内，所包含的可以是具体或抽象的事物。

     1) Other variables include wind, temperature and humidity.  （其他的变数包括风,温度和湿度。）

     2）The data include the names and account numbers of those sending and receiving funds.   (资料包括发送和接收基人姓名和帐号。)

3) The room was small and contained far too much furniture.  （房间很小,里面放的家具实在太多。）

     4) The review is a long document which contains twenty four articles.  （这篇综述是一个长的文档,包含了二十四篇文章。）

     include   还可以表示“列入”、“计入”等意思。

     1) You have to include everything to declare in this form.  （你必须把要申报的东西都填入表格。）

     2) You will find that the new plan include most of your suggestions.  (你会发现新计划把你们大部分建议包括进去了。)

embrace

encompass *

embrace  基本意思是“抱”、“拥抱”，可引申出“环抱”、“包含”的意思，强调全部包括在内。

1) Not having met for more than twenty years, the two sisters embraced warmly with tears in the eyes.   （20多没有相见,两姐妹热泪盈眶，彼此热烈拥抱。）

2) Siberia extends from the Ural Mountains to the Pacific Ocean and embraces over five million square miles.   （西伯利亚从乌拉尔山脉延伸到太平洋, 环抱500多万平方英里。）

3) The organization comprises three groups and embraces persons of differing political stands.  (该组织由三团体组成，包含各种不同政治立场的人士。)

       encompass  基本意思是“围绕”、“环绕”，可引申出“包围”、“包含”的意思。

      1) The old castle is encompassed by a river.  （这座古堡被是一条河围绕。）

      2) The new protected area encompasses a mosaic of savannas covering ancient sands dunes, riverside wet lands and swamp forests.   （新的保护区包含一个马赛克式的稀树草原,覆盖有古老的沙丘、河畔湿地和沼泽森林。

      3) Racial harmony should encompass three main factors: mutual respect, social harmony and good public security.   （种族和谐必须包含三个主要因素:相互尊重,社会和谐和良好的公共安全。）

      4) An accidental risk management plan should encompass risk assessment of environmental hazard, risk prevention and emergency response.  （偶然风险管理计划应该包括环境危害风险评估、风险防范和应急反应。

     encirlce

     surrond

      enclose   基本意思是“圈在里面”，“包在里面”， 多用于把公文、票据等装入信封或包裹；(随函)封入，附寄。

      1) The tribal live in the valley village enclosed by tall mountains.   （这个部落居住一个峪谷村寨，四周高山围抱。）

      2) To keep stray animals off the garden, it is enclosed with a hedge.   （为了不让乱跑动物进入花园，花园四周用篱笆围住。）

      3) She enclosed a check of one thousand dollars with the letter.  （她随信附上了一张一千美元的支票。）

     4）We enclose herewith one of our price-list for your examination.  (兹随函附寄我价格表一份，请参考。)

     encircle  基本意思是“圈在里面”、“绕”“环绕”的意思，常引申出“包围”的的意思，相当于surround的用法。

     1) The tree is so big that it takes ten people encircle it.   (这颗树很大，要十个人才能将它围抱。)

     2）The guerrilla moved quietly and quickly to encircle the enemy.  (游击队悄悄得行动，很快就包围了敌人。)

     surround  “环绕”，指四周都是……，或指周都被……围住，引申出“包围”的意思。

     1) The garden is surrounded by a high wall and shaded by thick trees.   （这个花园是周围有一道高墙,里面有茂密的树木。）
