They are lovely kids, but unfortunately have the delicate name "china dolls" because their bones are fragile and easily breakable.

In fact, they are vulnerable Osteogenesis Imperfecta, or OI, patients.

Wang Yi'ou, the founder of the China-Dolls Care and Support Association as well as a brittle bone disease sufferer, tells the torture the congenital rare disease brings them.

"The kids have experienced dozens of or a hundred bone fractures since they were born. The bones of some of them may break when their mothers hold them or when they pick up an apple from the ground."

Because of the physical challenges of the disease, many brittle bone sufferers are not able to finish their schooling, and few make it to higher education.

"Their bodies are so weak that their parents don't feel at ease leaving them in schools. And because some schools are unwilling to accept such students, they have to teach them themselves."

Consequently, they are uncompetitive in the job market when they grow up.

"Lacking systemic education, lots of OI patients have to face many difficulties with finding a job after they grow up. They have no professional skills and lots of physical limitations, so it is hard for them to find a suitable job so they can provide for themselves."
