LOS ANGELES, April 1 (Xinhua) -- A "fuselage rupture" Friday forced a Southwest Airlines flight to make an emergency landing in Yuma, Arizona, authorities said.
The jetliner had its roof ripped open soon after leaving the Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, Arizona, prompting a flight divertion to Yuma Marine Corps Air Station, said Ian Gregor, a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) spokesman in Los Angeles.
The aircraft, which had been bound for Sacramento, California, eventually landed safely in Yuma.
Gregor couldn't immediately confirm whether any of the plane's 118 passengers were injured and what caused the incident, but said an FAA inspector from Phoenix was en route to Yuma.
Steve Dupre, a FBI spokesman in Sacramento, ruled out the possibility of terrorism, saying "it appears to be a mechanical issue."
