VIENTIANE, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- China will push forward pragmatic cooperation with Laos in all areas to pursue common prosperity, said Zhou Yongkang, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), on Friday.
Zhou met with General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Lao President Choummaly Sayasone Friday afternoon. Both sides highly commended the progress in their bilateral ties and agreed to have more cooperation.
Zhou said China is willing to bring the China-Laos all-around strategic cooperative partnership into practice by carrying out detailed plans, projects and operations.
He said China also wishes Laos to successfully host the 9th Asia-Europe Summit set for the end of next year.
Choummaly highly appreciated Zhou's visit to Laos as it is fruitful and will strongly drive forward the China-Laos comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
China has become a significant force in the international community and is playing a key role in promoting regional and global peaceful development, which reveals the vitality of socialism and greatly encourages the Lao people, Choummaly said.
The president stressed that the Lao government and ruling party consistently regard China as its long-term strategic friend, adhere to the one-China policy and will do its utmost to strengthen cooperation with China.
Zhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and also secretary of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, wrapped up his official good-will visit to Laos and left for Cambodia late Friday.
During his two-day visit to Laos, Zhou met with Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong, Vice President Bounnang Vorachit and attended the signing ceremony for about a dozen bilateral cooperation agreements.
