China pledges to enhance friendly exchanges with Liberia
China is willing to enhance friendly exchanges over a wide range of areas with Liberia, Chinese leaders said here Wednesday.
Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi made the remarks when meeting with visiting Liberian Foreign Minister Toga Grayewea McIntosh in Beijing.
Speaking highly of the development of China-Liberia ties, Xi said China is willing to make joint efforts with Liberia to expand their friendly cooperation, have closer coordination and cooperation on major international issues, strengthen cultural exchanges and push forward the China-Liberia friendship and cooperation.
The vice president also vowed to enhance cooperation with Liberia and other African countries to solve regional crises.
"The Chinese government attaches great importance to Africa's peace and security situation. We will work with Liberia and other African countries and actively promote a peaceful solution of relevant crises, so as to contribute to the peace and development of Africa," Xi said.
McIntosh said the Liberian government values its friendly relationship with China, and will further enhance bilateral communication in many fields, expand investment and cooperation and promote in-depth development of bilateral relations.
During the meeting with his Liberian counterpart, Yang said China would continue to support the peaceful reconstruction of Liberia while advancing bilateral ties to a new level.
Since China and Liberia resumed diplomatic ties in 2003, both countries have deepened cooperation, maintained close high-level exchanges, supported each other on issues concerning key interests and enhanced mutual political trust, Yang said.
The two countries have achieved remarkable results through cooperation in areas such as as economy, trade, culture, education and health, Yang added.
For his part, McIntosh said Liberia appreciates the contribution China has made to Liberia's post-war reconstruction and economic and social development.
Liberia is ready to make joint efforts with China to strengthen friendly exchanges, expand cooperation and move forward the Liberia-China relations, McIntosh said.
The two parties also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
