Seven people were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion targeting a convoy of a foreign security firm guarding French embassy vehicles in Baghdad on Monday, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.

The attack took place in Baghdad's central district of Karrada when a roadside bomb detonated near a convoy of French embassy vehicles guarded by a foreign security firm, the source said on condition of anonymity.

The blast wounded four Iraqis who work for the security firm and three passersby, the source said.

The French embassy could not be contacted at the stage to comment on the incident.

Violence in Iraq has dropped significantly since its peak in 2006 and 2007, but bombings and shootings still happen almost on a daily basis. Recent months witness a remarkable increase of attacks targeting government officials and security forces.
