Seven people including five civilians were killed and seven others injured when a suicide car bomb went off in Afghanistan's Kapisa province on Wednesday, the Interior Ministry said.
"A suicide bomber blew his explosive-laden car in Kora Taz areas in the provincial capital Mahmoud Raqi at around 10:00 a.m. local time. As a result five civilians and two policemen were martyred and seven others including six civilians and a policeman were injured," said a statement issued by the Interior Ministry.
The wounded people were taken to the nearby hospital by police for medical treatment, the statement said, adding "The police have launched an investigation into the case and further details will be released later."
However, local media reports said the suicide bomber on a car had the intention of attacking the provincial education department where a meeting was under way attended by provincial officials.
According to reports, the bomber exploded his explosive-packed car when identified and intercepted by police in the entry gate of the building.
The explosion occurred in the areas where several government agency buildings were located and the blast shattered several windows of buildings around.
No one has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since the militant group announced on April 30 to start a spring offensive against Afghan and NATO-led international forces.
A total of 368 civilians were killed in conflicts and Taliban- led insurgency in May this year, the deadliest month for Afghan civilians since 2007, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said in a statement on Saturday.
