A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Friday urged discipline inspection offices nationwide to maintain a heavy-handed approach against corruption.
He Guoqiang, head of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), made the remarks while delivering a speech at the meeting of the nation's discipline inspection authorities held Friday in Beijing.
He said corruption still runs rampant in some areas and the fight against corruption faces many challenges, adding that the government should win people's trust with new achievements made in the battle against corruption.
He urged discipline inspection officials across the country to make greater efforts in handling corruption cases and put those suspected of corruption under investigation.
During his speech, He also urged discovering more corruption cases by expanding sources of information, including people's complaints, inspection tours, crackdown campaigns and media reports.
Additionally, He said Party committees at local levels will start holding elections this year for new terms and discipline inspection work must not relax in order to ensure good disciplines throughout the process.
Also on Friday, He Yong, deputy secretary of the CCDI, urged at a meeting on crackdowns on commercial bribery that authorities should intensify investigations and punishments in such cases.
Officials should focus on cracking down on cases that involve power-for-money deals, transnational bribes and serious violations of the public interest, He Yong said.
Officials should also punish bribery more harshly, he added.
He Yong called for further reform in the country's administration, taxation, finance and state-owned assets management systems to effectively prevent commercial bribery and corruption risks.
