Senior Chinese leader Li Changchun on Friday praised the poetry and calligraphy of a Uygur leader, a former senior member of China' s top legislature.

Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), spoke highly of the artistic achievements of these patriotic works by Tomur Dawamat while visiting an exhibition of Dawamat' s works in Beijing.

Tomur Dawamat, born in China' s western Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 1927, served as vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People' s Congress from 1993 to 2003.

Dawamat joined the CPC in 1952.

In addition to Beijing, the exhibition will be displayed in Xinjiang, Shandong, and several foreign countries.
