The chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), who is on a 6-day visit to Australia, said China appreciates Australia's position of sticking to the opening-up policy in its trade and investment and opposing any forms of protectionism.

China is positive in inking a free trade agreement with Australia, he said.

Noting that both countries are influential nations in the Asia- Pacific region, Jia said both sides share more common benefits and consensus than differences, and cooperation, mutual benefits and win-win result stand as the main stream of bilateral ties.

China and Australia can be closer cooperation partners in economy, trade and investment, and can be constructive cooperators in dealing with international and regional affairs, Jia said, adding that both sides have maintained consultation and cooperation in multilateral organizations or mechanisms such as the G20 and APEC.

China appreciated Australia's one-China policy and hoped that Australia will continue to respect and take into full consideration China's core interests and major concerns, Jia said.

China attaches great importance to the comprehensive cooperation ties with Australia and will join efforts with the country to push bilateral relations forward, he said. For her part, Gillard said as the prime minister, she will continue to devote herself to building constructive and cooperative ties with China.

She hoped that both sides can sign a mutually beneficial and long-term free trade agreement at an earlier date.

Australia is the second stop of Jia's three-nation tour, which will also take him to Samoa. Jia visited Myanmar earlier.
