Indonesia is taking measures to free 20 of its sailormen onboard an Indonesian ship hijacked by Somali pirates in eastern African waters recently, Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Michael Tene said here on Friday.

"As of March 16, we learned that they were all in good condition. But as of now we hadn't have latest report on their actual condition. Active contacts between government and agencies and organizations that frequently handling ship hijacking in that waters are underway at the moment," Michael told a press conference held at the ministry's premises here.

He said that the hijacked ship, namely "Sinar Kudus", belongs to an Indonesian liner firm, PT Samudera Indonesia, bound to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, carrying export products.

Michael said that Indonesia would establish active cooperation with those agencies to secure the safety of Indonesian sailormen onboard the hijacked ship. No contact has been established with the pirates regarding the ship hijacking, he added.

He added that the ship was still around that waters, under the captivity of those pirates.
