CAIRO, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) would not involve in the coming elections, said Egyptian Chief of Staff Sami Anan on Sunday in his meeting with heads of several parties to discuss laws and measures over the coming elections.

According to official news agency MENA, Anan said SCAF wanted to promote a consensus with different political parties, constitutional experts and lawmakers on elections to "determine Egypt's future in this sensitive time."

During the meeting, he highlighted that Egypt's interests must be above any party and person.

The meeting also discussed arrangement for the elections and the division of the constituencies.

Some parties' representatives asked for applying party-list proportional representation system, providing constituencies with full independence and banning participation of the members of the dismantled National Democratic Party. Meanwhile, the constitutional experts suggested to apply mixed member voting system to guarantee justice and equal opportunities for candidates from different walks of life.

The army chief said that SCAF would draw a clear roadmap leading to a new parliament, a new constitution and a new president, and SCAF would not involve in the coming elections.

He also stressed that adopting the emergency law is important in this stage for security concerns.
