Consumers at the Whale Inside Dark Restaurant are led by a waiter with nightvision goggles(夜视镜). Inside Dark Restaurant in Beijing,a table of 30 dinners was getting quarrelsome.“I'm touching your head!”said one, like a talkative child.“Who just said that?”another replied.Such voices floated across the 90plusseat restaurant, but no one could see who was talking, except the waiters, who were equipped with militarygrade nightvision goggles.
In the new conceptual dining, restaurants are turning off the lights to focus attention on the food. The trend seems to have started in Zurich and has since spread all over the world, with dinners sitting in unlit rooms and, lately, being served by waiters in nightvision goggles. The idea is that by depriving(剥夺) one sense (sight),other senses are heightened.
Darkness has other benefits.“Chinese people tend to be shy,” said Chen Long, who owns Whale Inside Dark, which opened in January.“People have found it easy to break the ice here.”
The first dark restaurant, which opened in Zurich in 1999,had a simple intention. The goal “was creating jobs for the blind and handicapped people,”said the manager. The concept has been popular in Paris,London,Sydney and elsewhere, offering new variations on sight deprivation,by which people can experience a lot in a completely dark condition.
In Beijing, the Whale Inside Dark Restaurant is not only about heightening the sense of taste, but lowering social inhibitions(压抑).It is popular with Internet daters, who met on matchmaking Web sites that are spreading throughout China. Dinner for two is about 225 yuan,or $29 at 7.76 yuan to the dollar.
Eating in the dark is not without its troubles. Instead of familystyle dining, food is served on singleserving plates. When each dish arrives, the server guides your hand to the plate and offers helpful tips like,“This course is eaten with a spoon.”
The style seems to be working.“People feel a lot more comfortable when they can't be seen by others,”said Mr.Chen, who is opening a second branch in Shanghai,“Couples get to know each other without seeing other's faces.”

Arctic Monkeys are famous because of their great success. They achieved their success thanks to the Internet.Usually a new band signs to a record company and then it is through marketing that people buy their singles. The single sales then get the band into the charts and they become popular that way.
However,Arctic Monkeys became wellknown in a slightly different way.Back in 2003 when the band first started, they handed out CDs at their performing concert.Certain fans liked the music so much that they put the music up on the Wed.The general public had access to this music because it was on the Internet and, because people liked the music, the band's popularity increased. The band's popularity was starting to get noticed by major radio stations in the

Marianne was learning to play the piano, and day after day Leopold stood behind her as she practised. How patient her father was,and how cleverly he showed Marianne how to play some particularly difficult pieces! She was making progress, very good progress, and that was excellent. And there, almost lost in the big chair, sat Wolfgang, who never had to be told to keep quiet when Marianne was practising. One evening at sunset Leopold patted Marianne's shoulder, saying she had done well.At that moment Wolfgang climbed on his father's knee and begged to be allowed to play the pretty piece Marianne had now mastered. What a joke that was!Picking up his baby son,Leopold laughed and said,“Look at your small hands. You must wait, little man!”
There was no end of fun during tea,and Marianne had to tell her mother about Wolfgang wanting to play a difficult piece. When the meal was finished,Marianne helped to clear away the dishes.Suddenly Leopold got up.“Listen!”said he in a surprised voice.“Listen!”“Marianne is playing the piece better than ever!”
But Marianne was washing dishes in the kitchen.
His wife following,Leopold walked quietly upstairs, the lamp in one hand, his music book in the other. He pushed open the door, and there was little Wolfgang playing in the darkness.“I love it.”whispered the child.
It was the beginning of Mozart's life of music.
64.Wolfgang was quiet when his sister practised the piano because .
A.he liked his sister
B.he loved music
C.he didn't feel well
D.he didn't want to make a noise

A.poor B.very wealthy
C.extremely rich D.fairly rich
根据上下文推测“The life was fairly welloff...”

67.Shortly after tea Leopold heard the music from upstairs. He was astonished because .
A.Marianne had never played the piece so beautifully
B.Marianne was washing dishes in the kitchen
C.Wolfgang was playing in the darkness
D.Wolfgang loved the piece so much
文中“Listen!”“Marianne is playing the piece better than ever.”
答案:A
D
Years ago, when I started looking for my first job,a wise adviser urged,“Barbara,be enthusiastic!Enthusiasm will take you further than any amount of experience.”
How right they were.Enthusiastic people can turn a boring drive into an adventure, extra work into opportunity and strangers into friends.
“Nothing great is ever achieved without enthusiasm,”wrote Ralph Waldo Emerson. It is the paste that helps you hang in there when the going gets tough. It is the inner voice that whispers,“I can do it!”when others shout “No,you can't.”
It took years and years for the early work of Barbara McClintock,a geneticist(遗传学家)who won the 1983 Nobel Prize in medicine,to be generally accepted.Yet she didn't let up on her experiments.Work was such a deep pleasure for her that she never thought of stopping.
Author and poet Samuel Ullman once wrote,“Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul”.
Enthusiastic people also love what they do,regardless of money or title or power. If we can't do what we love as a fulltime career,we can treat it as a parttime interest, like the head of state who paints, the nun(修女)who runs marathons, the official who handcrafts(手工制作)furniture.
We can't afford to waste tears on “mighthavebeens”. We need to turn the tears into sweat as we go after “whatcanbe”.
We need to live each moment wholeheartedly, with all our senses—finding pleasure in the fragrance of a backyard garden, the crayoned(蜡笔的)picture of a sixyearold, the enchanting beauty of a rainbow. It is such enthusiastic love of life that puts a sparkle in our eyes,a lilt in our steps and smooths the wrinkles from our souls.
68.What can be the best title of this passage?
A.Find pleasure in what you are doing
B.Wake up your life
C.To give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul
D.No pains,no gains
69.What conclusion does the writer draw through the experience of finding a job?
A.Enthusiasm will take you further than any amount of experience.
B.Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.
C.We can't afford to waste tears on mighthavebeens.
D.Enthusiastic people can turn a boring drive into an adventure, extra work into
opportunity and strangers into friends.
70.Which of the following statements is WRONG according to the passage?
A.No one can achieve great success without enthusiasm.
B.Enthusiasm will take a person further than any amount of his experience.
C.We should make great efforts to do the things that can be done instead of regretting for the past.
D.Barbara McClintock was generally accepted many years before she won the Nobel Prize.
It took years and years for the early work of Barbara McClintock,a geneticist who won the 1983 Nobel Prize in medicine,to be generally accepted.
71.Which of the following can replace the underlined phrase “let up on”?
A.Continue. B.Make fewer efforts.
C.Make great efforts. D.Stop.
由此可见,这里let up on应和make fewer efforts同义,意思是:放松。

Dear Sir/Madam,
Recently I have heard about some news that many
Why are they deserted? On the one hand, before these schools began to be built, there was a lack of scientific longterm planning and predictions of the development of Chinese education. Therefore, the distribution of schools isn't reasonable. On the other hand, owing to the social development and the declining population, it's unnecessary for so many schools to exist.
So when we build schools, we must be aware of their development in the future and consider whether there's a longterm need. And for those deserted schools, they should be made the best of and continue to serve the local areas.
Sincerely yours,
Li Hua
