Indian authorities in the northeast state of Assam Monday said they suspected that a separatist group had staged the bomb attack upon a passenger train there which injured more than 100 people, according to local media reports.

While sounding a massive security alert, local authorities said they have deployed security personnel in key locations to thwart more rebel attacks, said Indo-Asian News service.

Assam's Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi was quoted as saying that the state government condemns "such barbaric militant attacks like bombing trains or other such things targeting civilians."

Police suspected militants of the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) for the explosion at the Guwahati-Puri Express late Sunday near Ghograpara in western Assam's Nalbari district, about 70 km from the main city of Guwahati.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Four coaches of the train, which was bound for the eastern state of Orissa, were derailed, trapping many passengers.

Police have found blown up explosive materials on the tracks.

The attack took place less than 12 hours after a passenger train derailed in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday noon, in which 63 people were killed and more than 200 others were injured.
