QQ India's Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee is set to make history in West Bengal as her party is headed for a landslide win, according to early votes counting and exit surveys on the state legislative election held over the past two weeks.In the 294-seat assembly in West Bengal, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress alliance is sweeping the state with lead in almost 200 constituencies, according to local media reports.
Therefore, the state capital Kolkata is set to see a new Chief Minister, ending the 34-year rule of the Left Front led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Bouquets have already started arriving at the Trinamool Congress office here. The big question is whether the Trinamool Congress will get the majority of 148 alone or will it need ally Congress to make it there.
The Left Front has ruled continuously for the last 34 years and Mamata fought this election on the plank of "paribortan" or change after having fought for over two decades to realize her dream of ousting the Left.
"This is the crowning glory for the woman who set out alone 13 years ago, setting up the Trinamool Congress to battle the Left Front," Sudeep Bandopadhyay, senior Trinamool Congress leader, told Xinhua.
