China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Sunday said the mainland and Taiwan should consolidate the political foundation for peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.
Only when cross-Strait relations are stabilized, the shared political foundation for opposing "Taiwan independence" and sticking to the 1992 Consensus is cemented, and various disturbing factors are expelled, can the two sides see their relations develop in a correct direction, said Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
Jia made the remarks at a centerpiece conference of the weeklong Straits Forum which opened in the mainland's coastal city of Xiamen Saturday.
