They form part of the official commemorative china celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee which goes on sale today.

The Queen herself has approved the fine bone china memorabilia which includes a £25 coffee mug, a 7in plate for £35 and 10in plate for £95 and a limited edition two-handled loving cup for £175.

Nuala McGourty, retail director at the Royal Collection, said: 'We wanted to create a design that was decorative and feminine, and that would provide the right provenance for the Diamond Jubilee.'

The 10-piece set features a raised and gilded oak leaf border with acorns and the national symbols of the daffodil, rose and thistle on a pale blue base.

Using methods dating back 250 years, the set was handmade in Stoke-on-Trent by the same potteries responsible for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's official commemorative wedding china.

Mrs McGourty said: 'This range is even more labour-intensive in production than the royal wedding china.

'Some of the pieces go through nine different processes, several firings and require highly skilled craftspeople at each stage.'
