The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters of China revealed that Typhoon Muifa, the ninth tropical storm of this year, went to the north along the east coast of China and landed in the northwestern coast of North Korea at 6:30 p.m. yesterday with a level 9 central maximum wind speed of 23 meters per second.

One and a half hours before its landing, Muifa weakened into a tropical storm. Considering that the strength of Muifa would continue to weaken and its influence in China would be gradually reduced, the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters of China terminated the level 2 emergency flood control response.

In the process of its development, Muifa has been strong and weak several times. At its greatest wind power, it has reached the super typhoon level and its life cycle is obviously longer than general typhoons. Since Aug. 4, Muifa went to the north along the eastern coast of China and affected successively more than 10 provinces and cities: Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Shandong, Hebei, Liaoning, Jilin, etc. Powerful winds, huge waves and strong rainfalls appeared in some areas.

The National Disaster Reduction Committee Office of China revealed that provinces affected by Muifa, such as Liaoning, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and parts of Shandong, suffered from strong winds and rains that affected 183 counties of 29 cities to various degrees.

According to statistics, as of 4 p.m. yesterday, a total of 3.6 million people were affected, 1.353 million were evacuated, more than 600 houses collapsed and more than 4,800 houses were damaged. The direct economic loss was 3.1 billion yuan.
