More than 200 million Chinese adults are overweight, of whom over 60 million are suffering from obesity, Cai Jiming, vice president of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, said at a press conference for the 2011 International Healthy Lifestyle Expo in Beijing on April 6.

Cai said that more than 160 million people in China have high blood pressure, and 90 million have diabetes.

Cai noted that unhealthy lifestyles, such as smoking, excessive drinking, irregular and unbalanced diet, lack of exercise and mental imbalance can lead to tumors, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high blood lipids, obesit, and other diseases. They have become a major threat to the health of both urban and rural residents.

The 2011 International Healthy Lifestyle Expo, mainly sponsored by the Ministry of Health, will be held in Hangzhou, the capital of eastern China's Zhejiang Province, from Nov. 17 to Nov. 20.
