QQ Libyan insurgents closed down on Thursday morning the Libyan side of the Wazen-Dhehiba border post in south Tunisia, the official press agency TAP reported on Thursday.The measure was taken following heavy fighting between the insurgents and pro-Gaddafi forces around the Libyan village of Ghazaya, some 8 km from the Tunisian border.
Security sources and eye witnesses reported that Libyan rebels attacked on Thursday pro-Gaddafi positions following NATO strikes in the area during the night, TAP said. Heavy artillery was reportedly used in the fighting.
A vital passing point for refugees but also for fuel and food supplies, the Wazen-Dhehiba border post has been under the control of Libyan insurgents since April 29.
Recently, the Tunisian army sent in reinforcements on the Tunisian-Libyan border to prevent an eventual spillover of the conflict in Tunisian territory.
