  Three in 10 Americans commit "financial infidelity" by lying totheir spouses about money, sometimes suffering consequences such asseparation or divorce, according to a new survey。

  The Harris Interactive online poll of 2,019 adults released onThursday showed 31 percent of American couples who have combinedfinances were not truthful about issues such as hiding cash or a bankaccount or about debt or earnings。

  "Financial infidelity may be the new normal," said Forbes.com,which commissioned the survey with the National Endowment for FinancialEducation。

  One-third of respondents also say they have been deceived, and bothsexes lie to their partners about money in equal numbers. "Theseindiscretions cause significant damage to the relationship," said TedBeck, chief executive of the National Endowment for Financial Education。

  Sixteen percent of couples affected by financial infidelity saidthe deception led to a divorce and 11 percent said it caused aseparation. Sixty-seven percent said it led to an argument and for 42percent it lessened trust in the relationship。

  The most common lie, at 58 percent, was hiding cash. Fifty-fourpercent of respondents admitted hiding a minor purchase, 30 percent hid abill, 16 percent did not disclose a major purchase and 15 percent hid abank account。

  Eleven percent lied about debt and an equal number were untruthful about earnings, the survey showed。

  58%的人认为最常见的谎言是关于私房钱的。54%的受访者承认偷买过一些小东西,30%曾经私藏账单,16%偷买过一些昂贵物品,还有15%的人私设银行账户。

  该调查还发现,11%的受访者在债务上撒过谎,同样数目的受访者隐瞒真实收入。
