On Mutual-Demonization in China, US Media Report

By Cheng Li

1. Improvement in US media coverage of China

In fact, not only the media coverage of China, but that to the whole world’s affairs by US is ALL biased. The inevitable distortion of media representation is not China-targeting.

2. Exaggerated value discrepancies of China and US

China’s democracy has its own characteristics for sure, if developed into a democratic country. No one requires that Chinese democracy has to be exactly the same as the American democracy.

3. Just misunderstanding, not fundamental interestconflict.

On one hand, there are  "China Threat" worries – assuming China would transfer its own crisis to the international society. On the other hand, there is the tendency that China gets used to perceive US president’s visit to Japan, India and S. Korea as actions of “targeting China”. Well that might be a “balance” – which is not necessarily bad thing. In fact it is not easy to balance which country – why not China balance the other countries?

One of my key point is that it is the huge mutual misunderstanding, rather than the ideological differences or interest conflicts, that causes the military conflict, if any.
