——US trys to grab dominative position by promoting its military soft power

Recently, batch of shocking movements happened in America, and drew all the attention nearly from every corner of the world to the country.

First, U.S. President Barack Obama reshuffled some heads of his military team by nominating CIA Director Leon Panetta to take charge of the Pentagon to replace Robert Gates and sending Gen. David Petraeus, the high-profile commander of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, to run the CIA.

Second, world’s No.1 terrorist Osama Bin Laden was traced down and killed by US special forces in Pakistan, which ended a 10-year-hunting down to the criminal who claimed to be responsible for the 9/11 attack.

Third, America issued International Internet Strategy recently.

If you doubted the connections of these matters seem have nothing to do with each other, then you are wrong, seriously! Actually, the three moves are all necessary in US chess game for dominating the leading role of military soft power over the world.

With the continuous realizing of new techniques in social life, the competition of soft power, especially military soft power, is becoming more and more fierce, and Internet, psychological and public opinion warfare have turned into new battle fields for military research and competition of all countries.

For United States, which is used to posing itself as the “overlord” of the world, obviously doesn’t want to follow others’ steps but not lead in military soft power field.

In the processes of killing Bin Laden and promoting American military soft power, intelligence, certainly, was and will be the most important key element. Obama knows that clearly, that’s also why the current U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates came from the intelligence field and Obama nominated another guy from the field too.

No doubt, once Panetta takes charge of the Pentagon, he can take fully advantages of those reliable resources to promote the military soft power since he already learned how fierce the combat is in the field due to the experience of CIA’s head.

Talking about the competition of soft power, the Internet warfare in cyber world can never be negelected.

In June of 2009, UK issued world’s first regulation on Internet security – the “National Cyber Security Strategy of the United Kingdom.” A government official revealed that UK had formed two cyber security departments and has the ability to start Internet warfare.

Following UK, other countries in the world established their own cyber armies, too. The consruction of American Cyber Command was launched in May of 2010 and put into use in Octomber of the same year; now the department can start cyber attack around the whole world in order to protect the cyber security of its country.

With American soft power’s growing, China will feel more and more stressed in developing its own soft power, which is caused by several major reasons below:

First, there will be more international game principles lead by US, which means China’s space will be squeezed a lot.

Second, International Internet Strategy iussed by US tells every country that the goal of America is to grab the absolute might in the cyber world and make game principles other countries should obey. Once the situation came true, it means China has to go under the rule of US in the information society of future.

Third, although fast, China is still an emerging country and it has its own weakness comparing with the basis of developing soft power of US.
