The Libyan government denied Friday it had ever used cluster bombs when combating rebels in residential districts.

The Libyan government would absolutely not use these weapons against its own people, government spokesperson Ibrahim Moussa said.

The Human Rights Watch said Friday that the Libyan government forces pounded civilian areas in Misurata with cluster bombs at least three times.

The human rights body also said such bombs exploded near a local hospital.
