A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), in charge of political and legal affairs, on Friday urged the country's law enforcers to fully commit themselves to the mission of serving the people and guarding social justice and equity.

Zhou Yongkang, secretary of the CPC Central Committee's Commission for Political and Legal Affairs, made the remarks at a meeting that involved participants from relevant authorities including public security, procuratorates and the people's courts.

Law enforcement personnel must fully understand that they are working to serve the people, said Zhou, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Staff with the police authorities, procuratorates and the people's courts should improve efforts to resolve social conflicts and disputes and ensure people a harmonious life through better handling of cases, Zhou said.

He also stressed that law enforcement personnel must resolutely safeguard the CPC's leadership and the socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Four model personnel delivered inspiring lectures about their experiences working for the nation and its people at the meeting, which promoted education on traditional values among law enforcers.

They included an 88-year-old military officer, a 78-year-old space technology scientist, a former official with the Bureau of Letters and Calls in eastern Jiangsu Province and a police chief from Longyan municipality in the southeastern province of Fujian.
