Red & Gold Ming Dragon Plate

This is a porcelain plate made by Meissen around 1760. It is handpainted with the superb red Ming dragon design that was until 1918 exclusively made for the Saxon Royal Court. In the Chinese culture the red dragon symbolizes prosperity, power and good feng-shui. Thus all pieces before this time were used by royalty especially the ones in the 18th century since they were fewer of them then. Many pieces were made over almost 200 years but rarely does one see one for sale in good condition. This piece is in top condition with almost no wear. It does have manufacturing flaws like the normal black firing spots as well as dimples in the paste and one larger ground down area that was glazed and painted over to hide it. There is a little stacking wear to the clear glaze which I have shown in the pics as well! The plate is just under 1.5 inches tall and 9.375 inches in diameter. Marked underneath with the small underglaze blue crossed swords as well as an impressed number 8. Please email me for more information or other pictures. Price is $2499
