Bigger is better

The smaller the person, the larger the sunglasses. That’s the current trend.

VICTORIA Beckham likes hers huge and so does Madonna, apparently. Big seems to be better for Hollywood’s trend-setting celebrities ... at least where sunglasses are concerned.

Whether as a fashion accessory or to shield themselves from the flash bulbs of the paparazzi, Hollywood A-listers like Nicole Richie, Julianne Moore, Fergie, Jennifer Lopez and Mary-Kate Olsen seem to have taken to oversized sunglasses.

It was rumoured that the re-emergence of oversized sunglasses had something to do with the Olsen twins (Mary-Kate and Ashley) who donned monster shades as part of their disguise when they enrolled at New York University a couple of years ago, scarves included. Such was the case with reality star Richie who also hid behind super large shades in an attempt to remain incognito. Some say their re-emergence was instigated by stylist Rachel Zoe.

Well, as a result of being endorsed by so many celebrities, the trend has been picked up by fashionistas and fashion victims the world over. After all, these days anything pictured on a celebrity is a fashion must-have.

In case you are wondering, oversized sunglasses typically start above the brow and end somewhere mid-cheek.
