[Homework]2011-03-17&03-19 日本核危机撼动美国能源工业
The scale of the nuclear crisis continues to unfold in Japan. Non-function with the Fukishima Diagy plant has forced reevaluation of nuclear energy policy around the world.Joining me now to discuss is the Financia Times'
US indusgry and energy editor Ede Chris.
Ede,part of the Japanese quake has bitten a renaisance of nuclear power in US.How the event of last week outto discussion.Well there alread has been a lot of talks about renaisance and been a lot of political support for this .It's been one of the very rare it's the energy policy that republicans and democratics has really been able to agree on support for new nuclear investment on both side of the house and the administration. So they kind of hope it would be raised that we would see quite a few more new nuclear plants being built in US.I think we'd gotta think these events will be throwed into the air. We see a lot of statement from politcians that in past few days in differetn direction, some saying , we do have to review this,we do have to rethink it possible for nuclear powe ,other saying,we 'd gotta press ahead that this doesn't bring fundametally change, our nuclear power in US would haven't made that happen in Japen. But even so,nuclear is such a politically sense industry, why it is the most politcally sense industry is, when you see the kind of stories on the lovely new ,on the front pages of all newpapers. It's bound to have an effect on public opinion. So I think it certainly could help put a break on new nuclear
development in US.
And How was the US  nuclear industry responindg.Well  the reasonable thing which let's not rash to judge that we really don't know exactly what happend so far in Jpan. It's ceratin that we don't know what's going to happend ,we don't know how the situation is going to play out,we don't know what the lessons are. That's of course deadly right that you say that when you think of comprxxx, when you think about XXXX,the worst nuclear crisis we had here in US the nuclear crisis .People said at this point of crisis we had knew 10 percent of what'd  virtually came to know about what is going on here and  a lot of thing we thought we knew at that time literraly turn out to be wroing. So It certainly would be wrong to rush to judgement, what the indusgry is saying is let's hang on,learn the lesson of this ,then take political decisions, natual thing. Then they say the problem is that the public opinion is moving much faster ,faster than  the industry  would like and probaly heading a very different direction.
And in the US,the last nuclear facility was completed in late 70's and only 20 percent of our power comes from nuclear, what and why US shatter away from that enery.Well we had been in a bigger lot because of threeXXXX,when that happened in 1979 that was known a bigger radiation. That was hurt as a result of that ,still  it had a very powerful effect on public.  that there was another public opion being on bomb that really stop any new plants being built. And we had more new coal plants contructed and more gas power station built as well.
Dedication has now changed, the various reason bumply because of concern about fossile running out ,abuse because of climate change '.that's been  one of the bigger arguments that favourably part is that of course nuclear
generation doesn't have any carbon dioxide emission certainly, compared to  fossile fule compound, particully compared  to  coal which bring higher polluton from fossile fues in term of carbon diocide emssion. That seems to
be totting the case in favour of nuclear power .Even some environmentalist become around, they  think ,yes, we do need new nuclear plant here in US.I think all that  calculation now be through out again.
So what's the safer, long time energy implications?I think we could  probaly see more emphasis, emphasis is back now on renewables, more investments in wind forms, sonar panels, that kind of things. But particularly I think the
thing can be really big, benefically in term of energy system,it'd going to be natual gas.I think we would see a lot of burning of natual gas, particularly natural gas power generation.Natual gas power plants are cheap and quick and easy to put up.It's well proven  while still on technology and US has this found fantastic resources of natural gas
,new sources of natural gas now being tapped.people talk about US has reserves to last  hundreds of years of present made consumptions. This is amazing.I think people can and  would use that, not gas isnot cheaper at the
moment they would not stich.Particully when stichy,if you use a lot more in future, but even so I think all are examples of turning nuclear very much toward relying much more heavily on natual gas as fuel of Americal future.
