The revenues of China's state-owned enterprises (SOEs) amounted to 5.1 trillion yuan in the first two months of 2011, up more than 26 percent from a year earlier, according to the "State-owned and State-held Enterprises Performance Report for Jan.-Feb. 2011" released by the Ministry of Finance on March 17.

At the same time, SOEs recorded profits reaching nearly 331.7 billion yuan, up more than 29 percent from the first two months of 2010, and their net profits reached nearly 253.2 billion yuan.

In the first two months of 2011, SOEs paid a total of nearly 532.7 billion yuan in taxes, up more than 30 percent from last year, and their business costs reached more than 4.8 trillion yuan, up nearly 27 percent from last year.

In addition, their average net profit margin, return on net assets, and ratio of profits to costs reached nearly 5 percent, more than 1 percent and nearly 7 percent, respectively, up 0.1 percent, 0.1 percent, and 0.2 percent, respectively, from a year earlier.

SOEs in the building material and chemical engineering sectors saw profits more than double in the first two months, and those in the construction and real estate, machinery, petrochemicals, and oil sectors also enjoyed stable growth in profits.

However, SOEs in the transportation and power sectors reported overall declines in profits, with five major power generation companies incurring losses again.
