How to Insert YouTube Videos in PowerPoint
This guide describes how you can easily embed YouTube videos inPowerPoint slides, but before you insert the video, always think of themedium(s) you'll use to deliver that PowerPoint presentation.

Tutorial: How to embed YouTube Videos in PowerPoint
It's not uncommon to see presenters in conferences struggling to getthe video right thus breaking the entire rhythm of their presentation. The problem could be due to poor Internet connectivity or computermissing the right codecs or something else.
Now you can easily save yourself from getting into such embarrassing situationsby planning ahead. Will you be presenting to a live audience in a Wi-fienabled conference room with good Internet speed or are there anychances that you may have to deliver the presentation video in anoffline environment (like a classroom)?
The reason I asked this is because each situation requires a different approach. Let's see how we tackle each of them:
Update:Embed Web Videos in PowerPoint (for Office 2010)
Embed YouTube Videos Directly into PowerPoint
This is the easiest approach and recommended if are sure that thepresentation venue will have great connectivity.  Download the YouTubeWizard plug-inhere and upon installation, this will add a new "Insert YouTube Video" command to your PowerPoint Toolbar.

Insert YouTube videos to your PowerPoint presentations from the menu
You simply have to type the URL of the YouTube video and follow the wizard to add the YouTube video player in your current slide. You can resize as well as reposition the player anywhere on the slide.
Play YouTube Videos in PowerPoint without Internet
While the above solution works great, the only problem is that it streams live videos so an internet connection is required to playback the video during the slideshow. If you plan to deliver a presentation without internet, take the following approach.
First download the YouTube video locally in either Windows Media or AVI format since PowerPoint doesn't understand the default FLV or MP4 formats of YouTube.
',2)">
Add YouTube videos for offline PowerPoint Presentations
You can either useZamzar.com orMediaConverter.org to save any YouTube video as an AVI file – I prefer Media Converter since it supports in-browser conversion while Zamzar requires your email addressing where they send the link to converted video.
Once the video is saved as an AVI or WMV file on your computer, go to Insert –> Movie –> "Movie from file" to put the YouTube video in the current slide.
Get Videos from Google Docs into PowerPoint
Now consider another possible case – you spent lot of effect preparing an elaborate presentation inside Google Docs with several YouTube clips but how do you import all this into PowerPoint.
While Google Docs does provide an "Export as PPT" option, the problem with this format is that it converts all embedded YouTube clips into static images which is something you don't want.
',3)">Insert YouTube videos from Google Docs into PowerPoint
There's however a simple workaround – just publish that Google Docs presentation as an HTML slideshow and then insert it like aweb page in PowerPoint using theliveweb plug-in. Thus you can play YouTube clips inside PowerPoint though they are part of your Google Docs presentation.
Another advantage of this approach is that if you change any of the clip in your original Google Docs presentation, it will be reflected in the PowerPoint presentation as well.
Here's another approach -Embed YouTube Videos in PowerPoint.

Does this work for Office 2008 on the Mac?
Written by Damien on 11.13.08
Nn, it does not. The Mac version of PP only takes QT or MPEG4 movies, and the Win version only WM or AVI. Thus, it’s impossible to create a cross-platform PP show.
You can hyperlink to the QT or MPEG4 with both PP, but you often get a security warning.
The solution is for Microsoft to allow MPEG4, an open standard, to be embedded in PP on both platforms.

Not only you tube videos bu also by embeding COM component of Media Player, Real Player or any others, we can play the video in Power point or even in pain brush, but if you want to do this way people should know adding OLE, COM references. The approch you mentioned is very easy of laymans.
Thanks Amit,

Great article. Knowing how Murphy’s Law and PowerPoint seem to cross paths too frequently, I’d lean towards the approach that doesn’t require internet access.

okay, I have followed your directions down to the sentence, “Once the video is saved as an AVI or WMV file on your computer, go to Insert –> Movie –> “Movie from file” to put the YouTube video in the current slide. I converted the youtube videos to AVI via the MediaConverter.org you suggested.
When I went to Insert the Movie from file. I went to my Videos folder and selected my video and inserted the video in my PPT slide. The result was a blank page. When I clicked on the page a box came up that allows me to change the size, etc. I then clicked inside the box and the screen went black…but no movie (youtube video)played.
My goal here is to embed 6 youtube educational videos into my PPT presentation so I can take it to my class this Saturday 5/2 and make my presentation without the use of Internet.
So what did I do worng here?
