面子：为何中国人不易长进
一方面，由于久经风雨，人类的面皮最厚；另一方面，由于心理原因，人类的面皮却又最薄。所以，高科技至今仍难以测量人类面皮的厚黑度的平均值。
面子本应为雌性特征：内心虚弱、表面虚荣、攀比炫耀、目光周围。。。但如为整体民族的普遍特征，则断不可忽视、轻心。
令人奇怪的是，在中国，最不要脸的群体，却惊人地在意面子。中国特有的“面子”这一现象，偶然看似简单，但对于人的影响却广泛而且深刻。典型的社会后果为：自我为中心却无信心；眼光距离几里、后瞻几年；无勇气直面困难；不愿检讨自身缺点却只批评对方缺点。。。
Andersen童话《皇帝的新衣》中的夸张情景，仔细观察在中国的周围社会，并不少见：An Emperor who cares for nothing but his wardrobe hires two weavers who promise him the finest suit of clothes from a fabric invisible to anyone who is unfit for his position or just hopelessly stupid. The Emperor cannot see the cloth himself, but pretends that he can for fear of appearing unfit for his position or stupid; his ministers do the same. When the swindlers report that the suit is finished, they dress him in mime and the Emperor then marches in procession before his subjects. A child in the crowd calls out that the Emperor is wearing nothing at all and the cry is taken up by others. The Emperor cringes, suspecting the assertion is true, but holds himself up proudly and continues the procession.
