MINSK, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- China's visiting top legislator Wu Bangguo and the Belarusian parliamentary leaders on Saturday pledged to further parliamentary exchanges to serve the interests of a sound cooperation between the two countries.
The pledge was make during talks between Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), and Bearusian Parliament's lower chamber Chairman Vladimir Andreichenko and upper house Chairman Anatoly Rubinov.
"China and Belarus are good friends and partners, China is firmly committed to following the policy of boosting bilateral relationship with Belarus," said Wu.
China is ready to make joint efforts with Belarus to consolidate mutual political trust, deepen strategic cooperation and bring benefits to the two countries and peoples, he added.
Wu urged the NPC and the National Assembly of Belarus to further advance their cooperation in a bid to improved nation-to- nation ties in an all-round manner.
The two legislative bodies should continue to support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns, and learn from each other in terms of state governance, legislative supervision, economic development and improvement of people's livelihood, Wu urged.
The top Chinese legislator also suggested the two sides strive to approve legal documents on bilateral cooperation in time, speed up legislation on trade and investment facilitation, help implement the signed agreements and consensus, and support enterprises from both sides to expand cooperation.
Echoing Wu's proposal, Andreichenko and Rubinov said Belarus regards China as a most reliable friend and partner and appreciates China's long-term assistance and firm support.
The National Assembly of Belarus will stand together with the government to put Belarus-China relationship as a foreign policy priority and boost coordination in various fields to serve the development of both countries, said the parliamentary leaders.
After the talks, the two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the NPC and the National Assembly of Belarus.
Wu arrived in Minsk earlier Saturday after concluding his tour to Moscow. He is expected to meet with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich during his four-day official goodwill visit to Belarus.
Wu will also visit Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan during his four- nation Eurasian tour.
