Recently, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology approved the Lhasa Economic and Technical Development Zone, a new type of Chinese industrialization demonstration base and the first of its kind in Tibet.

At the moment, the development of the Lhasa zone is proceeding well. The tax revenue of the development zone totaled 660 million yuan from January to June, an increase of 94 percent on a year-on-year basis.

Taking advantage of six characteristic industries — minerals, Tibetan pharmaceuticals, national handicrafts, tourism, agriculture, and green foods and beverages — Tibet devoted itself to bringing the Tibetan Plateau brands into prominence during the 11th Five-Year Plan. So far, the number of Tibetan characteristic industry enterprises households amounts to 3,300, with registered capital exceeding 300 million yuan.
