Improving people's livelihoods is the high expectation of the common people, and livelihood-related topics have attracted the attention of representatives and members at the "Two Sessions."

From both the government work report and regional development information provided by NPC deputies and CPPCC members, the public is well aware that the past five-year period was a significant period, during which China became increasingly prosperous and strong, and common people obtained unprecedented material benefits.

Premier Wen Jiabao spoke frankly in the government work report that some issues about which the public had complained had not fully been addressed. These issues include the insufficient and imbalanced distribution of high-quality education and medical care service resources as well as increased inflation pressure and excessively high housing prices in some cities.

Most of the issues are associated with livelihood. This simply matches the results of a public opinion survey conducted before the "Two Sessions." The survey showed that livelihood topics, such as inflation and housing, are the issues about which the public is most concerned.

In retrospect, China relied on its development during the 11th Five-Year Plan to not only overcome various kinds of severe challenges but also accomplish achievements and progress. China should continue to rely on development to overcome the difficulties and address the issues on the road ahead.

When we view the development from the prospective of livelihood, we should cherish the hard-earned development situation and outcomes even more, value the harmonious and stable development environment and have greater expectations of improved livelihood and more equitable distribution of the development outcomes in the future.

When faced with the people's new expectations of living a better life, the government requires a strong will as well as superb political wisdom, scientific implementation of programs and strong practical actions to solve both old and new problems.

The 12th Five-Year Plan highlights the people's livelihood. It integrates the people's pursuit in the development process. One after another, the people’s livelihood "road map" and "timetable" declared that livelihood prospects in the next five years will not only be shown through the increase of various benefits, but also in the transformation of development patterns. Improving people's livelihood will become a more active and conscious act of the state.

The development and improvement of people's livelihood in China condenses hundreds of millions of Chinese people's expectations and also attracts worldwide attention. Humans are the ultimate end point of a country's development, while people's expectations toward a happy life are precisely the strong driving force of development.

Therefore, the government should respond to the expectations and meet them. China will experience a high-quality development, and the Chinese people will have a happier future.
