Fred Watson, the astronomer-in-charge of the Anglo-Australian Observatory in New South Wales, says a total lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through the Earth's shadow。澳洲新南威尔士的英澳天文台的Fred Watson说，当月亮没入太阳的阴影时，就会发生月全食。
Professor Watson says the [en]refraction of the Sun's rays through the Earth's atmosphere causes the lunar orb to take on a spectacular blood-red colour during totality。
