Neither will be on the ice for the Game 7 decider of the Stanley Cup Final in Vancouver Wednesday night, but both are playing a significant role in the outcome of who will win ice hockey's greatest prize.

When the Boston Bruins arrived in Vancouver Tuesday afternoon, among the passengers on the team's charter plane was Nathan Horton. In Game 3 of the hotly-contested series, the Bruins' forward was on the receiving end of a heavy body check from Vancouver Canucks defenceman Aaron Rome that sent him crashing to the ice.

The 26-year-old center, one of Boston's top offensive threats, was knocked out of the playoffs with a severe concussion. For the check, Rome was penalized and also gone for the series, receiving a four-game suspension in the process.

Horton's absence has provided the Bruins with inspiration as they came back from being two games down in the series to win all three of their home games and force the Game 7 decider in Vancouver.

Vancouver, who lost Game 6 in Boston Monday night when the Bruins scored four first period goals in a span of just over four minutes on their way to a 5-2 win, received their own form of inspiration from the loss.

In the first minute of the game, Boston defenceman Johnny Boychuk drove a doubled-over Canucks forward Mason Raymond backside first into the boards. He had to be helped off the ice by teammates. On Tuesday, Vancouver team officials announced the speedy winger had a vertebrae compression fracture and would be "lucky to return" by November. Boychuk received no penalty on the play.

Vancouver general manager Mike Gillis, who has been critical of the refereeing his team has faced during the playoffs, was hesitant to criticize the lack of a penalty or suspension on the play Tuesday, saying Raymond "faces a difficult position for some time."
