Russian presidential envoy to Libya Mikhail Margelov said on Wednesday he was planning to go to Tripoli and was ready to meet with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi after meeting opposition leaders in Benghazi.

"I met with Muammar Gaddafi before and I am ready to meet with him now as well, if he is willing to receive me," Margelov told Russian radio station Ekho Moskvy in an interview.

The Russian diplomat, who is currently in Cairo and has met with leaders of the rebel National Transitional Council in Benghazi, said that the opposition was prepared for a dialogue with Tripoli and not seek Gaddafi's death.

"They do not need Gaddafi's head, and no one is going to scalp him and nail it to the wall in his office," he quoted members of the Libyan National Transition Council as saying.

Besides, Margelov said it would be an expectable proposal by Benghazi to open a Russian mission there.

Ordered by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Margelov arrived in Benghazi Monday for talks with the opposition and left Libya on Tuesday without a breakthrough.
