Introduction to WebCL

大家下午好!非常高兴能在这里与大家共同探讨虚拟学习环境的建设。作为WebCL平台开发团队的一分子,我更是非常荣幸能够为大家介绍,希望WebCL能够为中英合作项目贡献自己的力量。
Good afternoon! I am pleased to meet you and talk about the issue of construction of VLE here. As one of the members involved in the designing and constructing the WebCL platform, I am so honored to have the chance to give you a brief introduction to WebCL. And I hope that WebCL can contribute to E-China project.
WebCL平台从2001年3月开始设计,5月开始开发,9月开始测试使用,至今已经过去四个年头了。其中经过无数的修改和更新,如今已经成为一个有效的、稳定的、受广大师生喜爱的网络教学支撑系统。去年9月WebCL2.0正式发布,北京师范大学信息科学学院多门课程立即使用WebCL作为课程支持系统,今年2月,北京师范大学信息技术公共课也正式采用,一年之内5000余师生体验了网络学习的乐趣,收获了网络学习的实惠。
WebCL platform was first designed in March,2001, developed in May, and put into pilot in September. Since then, it has passed four years. During that period, it has gone though numerous modification and updating. It has been developed into an effective and stable VLE system, favored by students and teachers. Last September, when the second version of WebCL was published, it was applied as a supporting system for many courses opened by College of Information Science, BNU. This February, it was used to support all the ICT courses opened by Beijing Normal University. During this one year, over 5,000 teachers and students experienced the joy of e-learning and benefited from it.
WebCL的全称为 “协作学习平台”,有着较多的特色吸引着师生。协作学习已成为目前很重要的一种学习方式,强大而又方便的任务和小组支持是WebCL最大的特色,通过布置任务、划分小组、组内开展协作学习、展示和评价协作学习成果等环节,支持协作学习全过程。
Firstly, the full name of WebCL is Web-Based Collaborative Learning, it has many features that attract students and teachers.  At present, CL has become a very important learning method. The most important feature of WebCL is the powerful and convenient supporting of tasks and groups. It supports the whole process of CL, through assigning tasks, dividing students into groups, carrying out CL in each group and presenting and evaluating the outcomes of CL.
其次,方便灵活的资源管理形式。教师可以直接上传课件,也可以将因特网上的任何可访问的资源通过WebCL组织起来,供学生使用。
Secondly, it has convenient and flexible management of materials. To meet the needs of students, teachers can upload their courseware directly, as well as organize any accessible resources on Internet by adding a link.
第三,多形式、多层次的交互支持。WEBCL为学生之间,以及师生之间提供了多种交互形式,包括即时双向一对一的在线消息、异步单向一对多的公告、即时双向多对多的聊天室、异步双向多对多的讨论区以及调查等。更为重要的是,WebCL从公共、班级、小组等多个层次提供交互支持。
Thirdly, it provides interactive support of different forms and levels. WebCL provides various interactive forms among students and between students and teachers, such as online message, bullet, chat room, forum and survey. What is more important is that WebCL provides various support in different levels such as public communities, classes and groups.
第四,强大的作业管理功能。教师可以轻松在线创建作业,类型可以设计单选、多选、填空、问答以及文档提交等形式。部分题型的自动评判功能大大降低了教师的工作量,也为学生提供的及时的反馈。另外,教师可以轻松查阅作业完成情况,掌握学生学习进度。截止日期的设置也为学生的学习进程提供了很好的控制。
Fourthly, it provides powerful management of assignments. Teachers can publish several kinds of assignments online easily including single answer choice, multiple choices, fill in the blanks and questions that need to upload an attachment. Auto assessment of some assignments releases the burden of the teachers, and gives a instant feedback to students as well. Furthermore, teachers can check the assignments of students and control the learning process easily. The setting of deadline is also a good way to control the learning process.
第五,多种多样的评价方式。在协作学习方面,教师可以组织专家组对小组的作品进行评价,学生可以对自己的协作表现进行评分,小组成员之间还可以进行,作为协作小组评价的修改因子。在个别化学习方面,电子学挡的设立为每个学生提供了学习过程的记录以及反思学习的空间。
Fifthly, it provides various types of evaluation.  On one hand, for the collaborative learning, it provides experts’ evaluation of group outcomes and peer evaluation in groups and self-evaluation as well. On the other hand, for the individual learning, it provides e-portfolio as an evidence of personal learning process, which helps students with self-reflection.
最后,人性化的个人私有空间。WebCL为每个用户提供了日历安排、电子邮箱、网络硬盘和个性设置等个人空间。学生可以在线安排事务,并可得到系统的提醒;学生可以在平台上存储私有文件以供平时所需,学生可以定制个性化的系统入口以使登陆更快捷。
Lastly, it provides personalized, individual, private space. Calendar, E-mail, web Storage and personal settings are all available in WebCL. Students can arrange their tasks online and may be reminded by the system. Students can also upload their private files to the platform in order to prepare for their daily use. They can personalize their portal to WebCL so that they can login more briefly.
需求在变化,WebCL在成长,每一个新的需求都是WebCL发展的机遇,来自在座每一位的意见和建议都是WebCL向前迈进的动力!
As requirements are dynamic, WebCL are developing. Every new requirement will be an opportunity for developing of WebCL. Any suggestion from you will be the impetus of advancing  WebCL.

基于Web的协作学习(Web-Based Collaborative Learning),国外多简称为WBCL,我们这里称之为Web CL
是指利用网络技术来支持的协作学习。从这个意义上说,Web CL是CSCL的一个子集。
协作学习(Collaborative Learning,简称 CL)
协作学习是学习者以小组形式参与、为达到共同的学习目标、在一定的激励机制下为获得最大化个人和小组习得成果而合作的一切相关行为。
计算机支持的协作学习(Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning,简称CSCL),是指利用计算机技术(尤其是多媒体和网络技术)来辅助和支持的协作学习。
