China's top political advisory body to convene annual session

    The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top advisory body, will convene its annual session at 3 p.m. Thursday.

    At the opening meeting, Jia Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, is expected to deliver a report on the work undertaken during the past year by the CPPCC National Committee's Standing Committee.

    During the annual session, more than 2,000 CPPCC members will hear and discuss Jia's report and the report on how their suggestions and proposals were handled since the last session, held in March 2010.

    The CPPCC members will also attend the annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC), the country's top legislature, as non-voting delegates.

    The China National Radio, China Central Television (CCTV) and China Radio International will broadcast the event live.

    The country's major news websites, including www.xinhuanet.com run by the Xinhua News Agency, www.people.com.cn run by the People's Daily, www.china.com.cn run by the China International Publishing Group and www.cctv.com of the CCTV will cover the opening meeting, to be held in the Great Hall of the People in the heart of Beijing.
